Another gut-punch: Cardinals are 20 games below .500 for first time in decades ST. LOUIS - Nearly one month removed from the trade deadline and with nearly one month remaining this season, the St. Louis Cardinals have hit one of their biggest skids in a disappointing campaign. The Cardinals have lost 10 of their last 12 games and bring a four-game losing streak into Tuesday. The latest loss, which spoiled one of Adam Wainwright's best opportunities for career win No. 199, puts the Cardinals 20 games under the .500 mark. It's been almost three decades since a Cardinals team fell that far back. That last happened late in the 1995 season. Why Bob Barker did not play for the St. Louis Cardinals Just how ugly has this stretch been for the Cardinals? They're only averaging around 2 runs per game and giving up around 7 per game in their last dozen contests. The Cardinals are in a tough spot when it comes to measuring performance. On one hand, the team traded away several veterans to stock the farm system and give younger players more opportunities, so some regressi...

Dangerous Toys Come Out to Play

Dangerous Toys Come Out to Play Dangerous Toys Come Out to Play: Austin rockers Dangerous Toys, as frontman Jason McMaster points out during the show, haven’t performed at the Whisky in quite a few years. This venue plays host  to a lot of bands from the ’80s hair/sleaze scene — it remains the spiritual home of that music. It’s a party club for nostalgia hounds. But there’s no doubting the fact that, when Dangerous Toys rolled into L.A. this week, they weren’t fucking around. They look great, first of all. Less big hair and bandanas, more beards and sunglasses — they’re sporting a biker rock look, akin to the likes of Little Caesar.McMaster has long had one of the most underrated voices in rock, and he’s also a superb frontman. Funny and charismatic, he likes to throw anecdotes out between songs and play with the crowd a little. There was a charming moment at the Whisky when he thought he recognized the woman who discovered Dangerous Toys and pulled her on stage...

The only problem with that lifestyle change? There weren’t many restaurant options at the time where their family could dine out. So Vergilio, whose background is in chemistry and teaching, set out to change that, learning not only how to create a menu of delicious, high-level dishes — the executive chef is Jen Sopinsky — but how to open and run a restaurant.Blossom & Root is located at 411 Hartz Ave. in downtown Danville. It is the first entirely vegan restaurant in the Tri-Valley area. Here’s what the hurricane categories mean

Published Fri, 29 Mar 2024 10:35:53 GMT

Here’s what the hurricane categories mean By Jennifer Gray | CNN MeteorologistOnce a tropical storm strengthens into a hurricane, it earns a category designation on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale: 1 through 5.Knowing about each category can help predict what damage an incoming storm may inflict – and how best to prepare. The categories are defined by wind speed, with a storm of Category 3, 4, or 5 considered a major hurricane. And damage is exponential as wind speed increases, meaning a strong Category 3 storm could do up to 60 times as much damage as a weak Category 1 storm. But it’s not always as simple as ticking up from 1 to 5.Hurricanes carry many risks not adequately conveyed by the wind speed-based scale, including:• Storm surge – when winds push water onto shore – which accounted for about half of hurricane fatalities between 1963 and 2012, according to a 2014 report in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society;• Rainfall-induced flooding and mudslides, which made up about a quarter of such deaths, ...
