AARP report looks at what can hurt and help your brain health

Editor’s Note: The video above shows KXAN News Today’s top headlines for July 3, 2023AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A new report from the AARP's Global Council on Brain Health found societal, political, and environmental factors can all have an impact on cognitive decline. While the report encourages people to live healthy lifestyles, they say people too often face barriers related to government policy, health care, and culture itself preventing them from taking the steps necessary. Scientific research, technology, city planning, healthcare, and employers all have a role in improving brain health and cognitive resistance.The report said failing to do so will have "economic and social costs."KXAN talked with AARP Policy and Brain Health Senior Vice President Sarah Lock about the report and possible solutions. It's camping season in the Adirondacks, and one YMCA-operated camp is welcoming in a crop of visitors helped along by a generous donation. MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Troy man was arrested on Friday, following an investigation that alleges he committed several acts against a physically helpless adult woman, according to Mechanicville Police. ST. LOUIS - Restoring power is still a huge issue Monday in the wake of the weekend storms. Ameren crews are still trying to get electricity back on for tens of thousands of customers on both sides of the river.Authorities with Ameren Missouri and Ameren Illinois both told FOX 2 that they have many crews working around the clock trying to restore power. However, at this point they can’t give a specific timeline as to when power should be completely restored on either side of the river.The agencies also shared that north and mid St. Louis County along with stretches of north St. Louis city were the hardest hit areas on the Missouri side of the river. In the metro east, Columbia seems to be the hardest hit area.Ameren Missouri has set up a staging area at Northwest Plaza in St. Ann. The search for a missing 8-year-old boy came to an end when the child was found safe Monday morning.Investigators on Sunday said Angel Chacon had last been seen around 3:30 p.m. Sunday while riding a bicycle near his apartment complex in the 200 block of Ramona Street.Angel had been left at the apartment with his 17-year-old brother. The boy was reported missing around 8:30 p.m. when his mother called 911, the Ventura Police Department stated in a news release. The first supermoon of 2023 brightened the skies above California Sunday night into Monday morning. NASA said at 4:38 a.m. Pacific Time, the moon reached its closest point to the Earth and was directly opposite the sun in Earth's longitude.
