Arcangelo takes the Travers Stakes for trainer Jena Antonucci SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Trainer Jena Antonucci heard all the skeptics of Arcangelo and how the two-and-half month layoff between starts would effect the 3-year-old thoroughbred in Saturday's 154th running of the Travers Stakes. She elected to tune them out, and let her horse do the talking. And Arcangelo delivered, backing up his win in the Belmont Stakes in June with a decisive victory in Saratoga Race Courses' mid-summer derby."Thanks to the naysayers for motivating me a little bit more; not that we need a little bit more motivation," said Antonucci. "But we will stay focused on what works for this horse."The $1.25 million, grade one race for three-year-olds offered a star-studded seven-horse field - perhaps the deepest pool of talent the race has seen in years. Arcangelo was one of three Triple Crown race winners in the lineup, including Kentucky Derby winner Mage, and Preakness victor National Treasure. But none of those three horses were favorited Saturday. The leader...

Ask Amy: I’m hurt by their response, but maybe it’s just a Gen Z thing?

Ask Amy: I’m hurt by their response, but maybe it’s just a Gen Z thing? Dear Amy: I married my husband two years ago. He has two children from a previous marriage, both in their mid-20s. I have a teen still at home.We have a really nice time with his children. We regularly talk/check in with them, and I believe we have a good relationship. However, recently my mother died, after a sudden and torturous battle with cancer. My stepchildren have not expressed their condolences in any way, and both skipped the funeral.I saw them two days later and they did not address it at all.My feelings are very hurt, but I’m not sure they should be.My mother used to say that young adulthood was her least favorite phase of life – people in their 20s are particularly self-involved. So this may just be the behavior of that age group.I haven’t shared my feelings with my husband because I don’t want him to feel bad.I suppose my real worry is that while we all get along, they do not want to be close.I do want to be close. I love them and want to nurture a rela...

Censorship Has Never Been Worse at Guantánamo Bay

Censorship Has Never Been Worse at Guantánamo Bay The rocky cliffs of Cuba split the ocean from the sky as our flight descended toward the tarmac at the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base. It was a clear afternoon in late June, and the first thing we were told before boarding the flight from Joint Base Andrews was not to photograph from the tarmac or plane. It was the start of a week at America’s most notorious military base, where absurd restrictions would dictate what I, and other journalists, could and could not see.One misconception about Guantánamo was cleared up before I ever got off the plane. In my mind, everything was the prison. For so long, I associated this place with concertina wire, guard towers, and orange-clad anonymous detainees. In recent years, I’d reported on some of those same detainees, now liberated, and I learned that my prejudices and fears about the vast majority of these men had been unfounded. They welcomed me into the community of brotherhood they had forged, and I was now visiting the place where so much of the...

Noah Lyles begins his Olympic-sized run at stardom BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — The American men who had won the 100 meters, 200 meters and 4×100 relay at world championships before this year are known to track fans: Tyson Gay and Maurice Greene. But some of the American men who have gone 3 for 3 in those races at the Olympics are known far beyond the shadow of any track stadium – think, Jesse Owens and Carl Lewis. The sizable gap between “track star” and “global icon” is the one Noah Lyles is hoping he can bridge between now and next year at the Paris Olympics. Lyles capped off his own historic world championships by anchoring the men’s 4×100 relay team to victory Saturday night to capture his third gold medal in the sprints, joining Gay and Greene, but also track’s last true superstar, Jamaica’s Usain Bolt, who last accomplished that feat eight years ago.Lyles made no secret that he would like to fill the void left by Bolt – a once-in-a-generation character who transcends sports and stands out as much on red carpet...

Tracking Tropical Depression Ten A new tropical cyclone formed in the Atlantic basin on Saturday, known as Tropical Depression Ten, and this system could have some big impacts on parts of Florida by midweek. For us in South Florida, we will feel some impacts from the system but it is currently forecast to be far enough to our west to experience fringe impacts. Before then, expect a mix of sun and clouds this Sunday with scattered showers and thunderstorms as a small area of low pressure moves onshore to the east coast. There will be a light breeze at times along with high temperatures into the low to mid 90s.Beginning Monday, our pattern will become influenced under TD Ten, which will likely be Tropical Storm Idalia by this time period. Winds will shift out of the south and that will do two things: increase moisture levels and temperatures. Winds will maintain this southerly component most of this week, meaning a hot week is ahead for us in South Florida with highs hovering into the mid 90s.This will also be paired ...
