KIRKWOOD, Mo. - Questions about 'racy' content in this year's yearbook have been raised by some Kirkwood High School parents.Inside the 400-page yearbook is a portion where students share their opinions on hookups, the concept of a casual sexual relationship, and its benefits and consequences. A picture of birth control was in the background.Kirkwood parent Derek Byers has seen the yearbook. His son, Wyatt, is graduating in two days. Byers ran the Kirkwood scholarship program for six years. He said he's in touch with student life and is not upset about his son's yearbook."The students of Kirkwood are provided a very unique autonomy. The autonomy is both in the school yearbook and the newspaper," Byers said. "This has been a tradition in Kirkwood for decades."The Kirkwood School District released a statement on Thursday saying:Kirkwood High School has a longstanding tradition of allowing student media to be designated public forums. This practice has led to the Kirkwood High School j...Opinion: The Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem comes at the world’s time of need

As an American Jew, my recent trip to Israel highlighted similar issues facing both countries. The dual events of celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the state of Israel and the opening of the Museum of Tolerance-Jerusalem brought to mind the pressing need for dialogue and a shared commitment to tolerance. These are essential values for our thriving but imperfect democratic systems. The strength and resilience of this tiny democratic nation, the only one in the Middle East, cannot be denied.Israel is the size of New Jersey and with a population of 9.7 million people. Jews make up roughly 7 million of the overall population. Despite its size, Israel is an economic and military powerhouse. Israel’s technology and innovation are the envy of the entire world. Israel was ranked the fourth-best economy in 2022 among a list of OECD countries, according to The Economist.Israel also has one of the most powerful militaries in the world. The organization responsible for disciplining Colorado judges for professional misconduct saw a 25% increase in the number of complaints it received in 2022 compared to 2021, according to a newly published annual report. The Colorado Commission on Judicial Discipline authorized formal disciplinary proceedings against judges in five cases in the last 18 months, which the agency says is more such proceedings than in the last 12 years combined — showing an uptick in serious, credible complaints against the state’s judges. The surge came as the Colorado Commission on Judicial Discipline underwent an unprecedented reform effort that wrapped up in the legislature this week and is now headed to Colorado voters, who will in 2024 decide whether to amend the state’s constitution to make the discipline process more transparent. The Commission on Judicial Discipline received 249 requests for evaluation — complaints — about judges’ behavior in 2022, up from 200 r...Pilots for United, Southwest, American threatening to strike. Xcel Energy is seeking a $312 million increase in revenue in an electric rate case, but the state agency that represents the public wants regulators to instead cut the utility’s revenue by $26.6 million and block it from recovering millions of dollars of investments for transmission projects. If approved, Xcel Energy’s rate request would raise residential monthly rates an average of 8.2% and monthly rates for small businesses an average of 7.7%. Xcel, Colorado’s largest electric utility, says the increase would pay for investments in its distribution and transmission systems and information technology and ensure it can meet the state’s targets for cutting greenhouse-gas emissions. The Colorado Public Utilities Commission is considering the rate increase in the aftermath of skyrocketing natural gas prices that sent heating bills soaring this winter for customers of Xcel and other utilities. The outcry over the huge spikes led to hearings by a select legislative ...Jeffrey Neuman’s canny drama, “The Headliners,” wows at Pluss Theatre

In the Mizel Arts and Culture Center’s Pluss Theatre, something special is taking place: A new play is coming into its own. Having donned the stuff that full productions are made of — attuned scenic, lighting, sound and costume design (always costume design) — “The Headliners” is getting its world premiere. And the Cherry Creek Theatre’s staging of Jeffrey Neuman’s wise play — which runs through May 21 — quietly wows.Neuman sets his engaging drama — with music and a little bit of sashaying — in 1908, the year New York City’s vaudeville quasars Eva Tanguay and Julian Eltinge decided to flip the script on the institution of marriage (or perhaps punk their audiences) with a public engagement to take place on stage. She’d wear the tux.
