Newsom vetoes bill that would have decriminalized psychedelic mushrooms

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill aimed at decriminalizing the possession and personal use of several hallucinogens, including psychedelic mushrooms. The legislation vetoed Saturday would have allowed those 21 and older to possess psilocybin, the hallucinogenic component in what's known as psychedelic mushrooms. It also would have covered dimethyltryptamine (DMT) and mescaline. The bill would not have legalized the sale of the substances and would have barred any possession of the substances on school grounds. Instead, it would have ensured people are neither arrested nor prosecuted for possessing limited amounts of plant-based hallucinogens.Newsom, a Democrat who championed legalizing cannabis in 2016, said in a statement Saturday that more needs to be done before California decriminalizes the hallucinogens.“California should immediately begin work to set up regulated treatment guidelines - replete with dosing information, therapeutic guidelines...Barjon wins final Korn Ferry event to get PGA Tour card. Tuten loses out on a penalty

NEWBURGH, Ind. (AP) — Paul Barjon had a big weekend at the right time, closing with a 4-under 68 on Sunday for a three-shot victory in the Korn Ferry Tour Championship to move him into the top 30 of players who earned PGA Tour cards for 2024.Barjon came into the final event at No. 45 on the points list, and then he went 64-68 to secure his card.On an typically emotional day at Victoria National, Shad Tuten and Rafael Campos were on opposite ends.Tuten thought his 74 was going to be just enough to finish in the top 30. But after his round, video showed that he took an improper drop in the 15th fairway and he was assessed a two-shot penalty. That dropped him to a 76, and he fell outside the top 30.Campos missed a birdie putt on his final hole and was in tears. He was at No. 31 but moved to No. 30 when Tuten was penalized.Tuten’s penalty amounted to a short cut. He went to lift, clean and place his ball in the fairway on the par-5 15th. The ball moved slightly forward. Rules official J...Milano injury ‘not looking good’ for Bills. McDermott questions London travel plans vs rested Jags

LONDON (AP) — The Bills arrived jolly. They came out flat. They’re going home battered.Buffalo rallied but fell short in a 25-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.Starting linebacker Matt Milano left early with a knee injury that is “not looking good,” said coach Sean McDermott. That’s after losing starting cornerback Tre’Davious White last week to a season-ending Achilles tendon injury.McDermott is not optimistic about DaQuan Jones, either. The defensive end injured a pectoral muscle. And McDermott is definitely not pleased with the scenario of arriving in London on Friday to play a team that had already been in the British capital for a week.“We’ll see if, whatever comes up down the road in terms of us coming back here, but we need to evaluate everything because I didn’t feel like our energy was good enough early in the game. They had better energy than we did,” McDermott said. The Jaguars stayed in town after beating the Atlanta Falcons last ...Jared Goff throws 3 TD passes, runs for score, NFC North-leading Lions beat winless Panthers 42-24
