Multiple California cities have been named among the “best” places to raise a family, according to a new study from WalletHub.Researchers determined that the city of Fremont in Northern California was the “best” place to raise a family.In Southern California, Irvine, San Diego and Huntington Beach ranked within the top 20. The cities ranked third, sixth and 14th, respectively. Los Angeles ranked 86th, while San Bernardino was the lowest-ranked California city on the list. OAKLAND — A Vallejo man was sentenced to 14 years in state prison for the death of his friend who was shot and killed after the two broke into a Dublin man’s home in what police called a home invasion robbery attempt.Rickey White, 31, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the death of 28-year-old Adrianna Marie Navarro, also of Vallejo. Navarro was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend after she and White, who was also wounded, allegedly broke into the man’s Dublin home on Jan. 1, 2020.White was originally charged with murder under a legal theory that allows a cohort to a crime to be charged when the victim uses lawful self-defense against the perpetrators.The Dublin resident told police that he looked through the peephole, saw only Navarro and cracked the door. (KRON) -- Former San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin has accepted a new role at University of California, Berkeley School of Law, the university announced on Wednesday. PG&E settles with Shasta County DA over Zogg Fire charges Boudin will serve as the founding executive director of Berkeley Law's new Criminal Law and Justice Center; he calls the role a "perfect fit." The center will be focused on research and advocacy in order to boost Berkeley Law's public mission in the criminal justice arena, the university said. (KTXL) -- A San Francisco man has been sentenced in connection to the 2021 death of Dawn Loralee Ritter, according to the Yuba County District Attorney's Office.Dominik Oshay Cash was pulled over by California Highway Patrol officers in January 2021 for speeding. (BCN) -- As Oakland officials consider balancing the city's next budget, members of community-based organizations on Tuesday afternoon protested potential budget cuts to the city's Department of Violence Prevention, which curbs violence only through diplomacy.
