William Burdett Shope, Hilda Maness Shope Killed in Traffic Crash on Pantano Road [Tucson, AZ] Couple Killed in Car Accident on Pantano Road RampTUCSON, AZ (April 17, 2023) – On Wednesday afternoon, William Burdett Shope and Hilda Maness Shope died following a traffic accident on Pantano Road.The incident happened on April 5th at about 12:40 p.m. on the southbound Pantano Road ramp.According to police, a white 2022 Toyota Camry driven by 86-year-old William and his wife, 85-year-old Hilda, was entering the ramp from westbound Tanque Verde Road.Furthermore, William failed to make a curve, and the Camry left the roadway. The Camry then slammed into a concrete barrier.Unfortunately, Hilda died at the scene, and authorities transported William to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he later died.Additionally, both directions of the roadway were temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties but have since been reopened to the public.At this time, it was unknown if William had a medical emergency during the incident. (KRON) -- More racist text messages exchanged between Antioch police officers came to light on Monday when the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office released a second investigative report to the media.The egregiously racist text messages and images were sent and received by certain Antioch Police Department officers in 2020 and 2021. A judge ordered the District Attorney's Office to disclose redacted investigative reports to defense attorneys whose clients were arrested by police officers named in the reports. The first 21-page report was released on April 13, followed by the second 14-page report on Monday. The texts were described by Police Chief Steve Ford as "racially abhorrent."
