Keeler: How Broncos RB Jaleel McLaughlin ran from homelessness to NFL heroics: “I don’t want to live life with any regrets.” For three months, his bed was the back seat of a Ford Focus. As a teen, Jaleel McLaughlin went home to a McDonald’s parking lot, a five-star speedster living out of a four-door sedan.“You know, there (have) been games where I’ve had a great game and I’d come home to nothing,” the undrafted Broncos rookie recalled Tuesday after practice at Dove Valley. “I’d come home to sleeping in the car.“So that’s why … I don’t never get too high and never get too low. Because the unexpected can happen.”Criminy, does this unexpected fly. If your heart doesn’t lambada whenever McLaughlin touches the rock, check your pulse. If you’re not rooting for the kid to make this Broncos roster, especially once you hear his backstory, best check your soul.“(My family) definitely motivates me a lot,” the free-agent tailback and returner out of Youngstown State said. “Even if, say, I might have a down day or, say, it’s early in the morning, I think about my family. I think about the sacri...

Fans heckled him.“Just telling you that you need to be up there. This and that. You hear it,” Harrison said a day before making the most-anticipated arrival of a Giants prospect in a decade. “I hear the noise.”In front of 40,420 rabid fans, under a cotton-candy sky on a Tuesday evening and three levels of grandstands, Harrison either tuned out the noise, the most he’s ever experienced on the mound, or thrived on it — either way, in an environment that was a far cry from De La Salle campus or Sacramento, Harrison largely lived up to the billing, with the understanding that this was never going to be a seven-inning or 100-pitch debut. The Giants understood the challenge the Phillies’ loaded lineup presented. Canadian officials have eased wildfire evacuation orders in a scenic British Columbia region VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Canadian firefighters have begun easing evacuation orders in a scenic region of British Columbia, with the prospect of better weather raising hopes for the battle to contain wildfires, authorities said Tuesday. To the north, in Northwest Territories, a weekend of cooler temperatures, favorable winds and some rain allowed fire teams outside the provincial capital of Yellowknife to shift their efforts to quelling the blaze after spending days just keeping it from advancing on the city. Those are just two of the 386 wildfires that authorities said are currently burning in Canada, which has seen a record number of wildfires this year. The fires have chased tens of thousands of people from their homes and also sent smoke into parts of the U.S. Officials in southern British Columbia were optimistic about the battle against wildfires that raged for days in the Okanagan Valley in threatening towns in the Kelowna area, a summer destination about 90 miles (150...
