The Chicago Bears resumed practice Wednesday as they prepare for Sunday’s game at the Cleveland Browns.Along with defensive end Yannick Ngakoue going on injured reserve, here are three things we heard from coach Matt Eberflus and his players.1. Bears quarterback Justin Fields said he talks to officials about looking out for late hits before every game.Late hits on Fields have been a topic of conversation throughout his three seasons in the NFL, and it came up again in Week 14 after Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell hit Fields late after the quarterback slid down following a 1-yard run Sunday. It happened on the first play of the game, despite Fields talking to officials about it so they would keep an eye out for his safety, he said.“Especially when we play the Lions, I know how they play, I know what kind of team they are,” Fields said. “So I know that they’re going to play hard and play until the end of the play. I always tell them (the officials) ...Man’s life threatened following Roxbury shooting

A man shot while sitting in his car near a Roxbury intersection is being treated for life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.“We do not believe there is any concern to the general public in this neighborhood,” Boston Police Deputy Superintendent Paul McLaughlin said Saturday evening from the scene on Townsend Street at its intersection with Warren Street in Roxbury. It was there, McLaughlin said, that just before 4:30 p.m. Saturday Boston Police received a ShotSpotter alert indicating gunfire. Shortly thereafter, community members called in to report someone had been shot. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man sitting in a small white car and suffering from gunshot wounds, McLaughlin said. Boston EMS transported him to a hospital where, at the time of the press conference a little after 7 p.m., he remained in critical condition.McLaughlin said police were interviewing multiple witnesses and are “trying to pull it together, to see what the underlying reason for the...Boston Tea Party comes back to life in celebration of 250th anniversary

A grand spectacle unfolded on the Boston Harbor Saturday night.Hundreds of reenactors from around the country, dressed up in colonist garb, boarded a tall ship and destroyed more than 2,000 pounds of British tea into the waters. The thousands gathered to watch the theatrical scene went crazy in applause.Exactly 250 years to the date, the Boston Tea Party came back to life for one afternoon into the night.Matthew Solander, of Quincy, dressed up in a gray colonist suit as one of the reenactors to board the chilly ship. He called the role an honor and said that these kinds of events are essential to the public’s understanding of the country.“We should remember our history as a nation. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it,” Solander told the Herald outside the Old South Meeting House. “Doing stuff like this helps the public remember how we were born with privilege.”Though life is a lot different than it was back then when colonists protested tax...Power outage: Over 1,400 without power in San Diego

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Gardner Minshew got the most out of his depleted supporting cast. The Colts’ quarterback, himself a backup, made big plays with backup receivers. He got Indianapolis’ reserve running backs into play calls that would succeed. It was some of Minshew’s finest work of the season — perhaps of his entire career.Minshew matched his career high with three touchdown passes, Indianapolis rushed for 170 yards and the Colts improved their playoff prospects with a 30-13 win over the sagging Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday.“We’ve needed to win these games and we’ve done a great job down the stretch,” Minshew said. “I think everybody was locked in, the urgency was there, the attention to details. At this point it’s all about winning games, however, you’ve got to get it done.”Minshew and the Colts (8-6) have won five of six to move from the bottom of the AFC South into playoff contention. They currently hold the No. 7 position in the AFC, and they will remain th...Large fire burns 2nd residential construction site in 3 days in Denver suburb

DENVER (AP) — Firefighters in the Denver metro area responded to the second large fire at an Aurora construction site in three days on Saturday. Officials have not yet determined the cause for either fire and have not suggested that they were related, but both are under investigation. Saturday’s five-alarm fire was reported shortly before 1 p.m., said Aurora Fire Rescue spokesperson Andrew Logan, at a large apartment building that was still under construction. Responding crews went to the top floor of the five-story building where the blaze was reported to have started, but the dangerous conditions soon forced crews from several different agencies to focus on fighting the flames from outside the structure. One firefighter suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital and is recovering, according to a department statement. No other buildings were damaged in the fire, Logan said, and firefighters were expected to remain on the scene through Saturday evening.Another fire...Latest news
