Family and former colleagues of a longtime St. Paul activist and former city council member are remembering her for community work and a strong belief in government’s ability to improve lives.Two-term city council member Roberta “Bobbi” Megard died on Nov. 16, 2023 at age 87. Megard represented northwestern St. Paul’s Ward 4 on the council after being elected in 1993, and ran for mayor in 1997 and 2001.One of her lasting marks is on downtown housing, says Ann Cieslak, who was a legislative aide to Megard for four years. Cieslak remembers Megard making early calls for more housing in the then-floundering district, which has since seen significant residential development.Megard was an advocate for affordable housing, and a critic of former Mayor Norm Coleman’s unwillingness to raise taxes, something she said would only shift problems to future St. Paul residents, Cieslak said.“She didn’t make her decision based on the politics of it,” said Cieslak. “She would always say what was...

They had fun with it.”So did the Internet. There was a particular moment from the game that showed Robert and Stephanie looking rather disinterested. Somebody took a screenshot and posted it on the website formerly known as Twitter, with the caption, “Josh Dobbs parents still wish he worked for NASA.”That post got more than 3.5 million views, and hilariously, Dobbs found it so funny that he even reposted it...

HOUSTON — Before ejections were getting passed around in Detroit like Thanksgiving side dishes, Nikola Jokic made sure tensions were festering with a gesture of sarcastic motivation.“Hey, wake up,” Jokic told a referee after disagreeing with a lane violation call early in the Nuggets’ game Monday night. It was caught on broadcast video.“Wake up. Wake up,” he repeated, clapping as though he was encouraging a teammate. He received his first technical foul, setting the stage for his disqualification late in the first half.Jokic’s frustrations with officiating became a theme during Denver’s similarly frustrating five-game road trip this week, sparking a new wave of debate about how the two-time MVP is guarded and whether he receives enough grace from referees in the post.“That’s normal,” Jokic told The Denver Post when asked about opponents not getting whistled for physical defense. “Seems like some guys are getting more ...

You feel different energy after two in a row, then three, then four where we’re standing right now. It’s amazing. Even the practice squad, you see everybody working harder and doing what they’ve got to do to get the fifth. …“Winning cures everything. A lot of people have said that, but it’s true. It doesn’t matter how you win. You could win by one point. Doesn’t matter. Winning is everything.”It’ll be no easy task for Denver to get to five straight Sunday against 7-3 Cleveland at h...
