Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio has failed to clinch the House speakership in three rounds of voting, and the gap is growing wider. On Friday, 25 Republicans voted against his candidacy – far more than the handful he could afford to lose given the party’s narrow majority in Congress. A speaker needs a majority of the full House to be elected. On Tuesday, 20 Republicans chose a candidate other than Jordan, and on Wednesday the number rose to 22.Three members who had voted for Jordan in the first two rounds switched on Friday: Marc Molinaro, of New York; Tom Kean, of New Jersey; and Brian Fitzpatrick, of Pennsylvania.Eleven of California’s 12 Republican congressmembers voted for Jordan on all three ballots. The exception, Doug LaMalfa, voted for former Speaker Kevin McCarthy on the first ballot and Jordan on the second and third.Besides ousted speaker Kevin McCarthy, another of the California delegation got a vote: Mike Garcia, from Santa Clarita, was chosen on all three ballo...Report: Ousted SF Giants manager interviews for top Red Sox job

It’s been three weeks since the Giants fired Gabe Kapler, but their ousted manager may not be out of the game for long.Kapler has reportedly begun interviewing for other jobs, and he’s not limiting himself to other open managerial positions.According to the Boston Globe, the former Giants manager met with Red Sox officials about the top job in their baseball operations department, a position vacated last month when they fired Chaim Bloom. Boston has reportedly had trouble filling the role, with members of multiple front offices declining interview requests.Only two years removed from being named the National League manager of the year, Kapler would have to make the rare jump from an on-field role into a front office. But before he was hired as a manager for the first time in Philadelphia, he gained experience in the Dodgers’ front office as their farm director for three seasons.Related ArticlesSan Francisco Giants | SF Giants’ rookie catcher named ...Weekend cooldown expected following record-smashing heat in Bay Area

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland both deserve to win this year’s Ballon d’Or award for the world’s best soccer player. Messi, a seven-time winner of the sport’s biggest individual honor, fulfilled his life’s ambition by leading Argentina to victory at last year’s World Cup. Haaland led City to a treble of trophies, including the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup titles in his first year at the club, scoring 52 goals. Guardiola, who coached Messi at Barcelona and repeatedly described him as the greatest player of all time, believes it is impossible to separate the two when the Ballon d’Or winner is announced on Oct. 30. “I always said that the Ballon d’Or had to be of two sections — one for Messi and one for the others,” the City manager said Friday. “Haaland should win. We won the treble because he scored 52 goals but, of course, Messi — his worst season is ...Latest news
